Upon further reading, I found that both these media players are using the Realtek 1073DD chip and so we now have so many media players to choose from if we want to play the Full HR videos; as long as the media player is using the same chip, the Realtek 1073DD, it should be able to play the videos. The only major difference will be the physical built of the player including the casing and the output/input connection options. Many of the GUI used are very similar if not exactly the same, especially those from China. Below are some of the more popular brands of media player that are using the Realtek 1073DD chip, in alphabetical order. This excludes those media players that use the other major chip, the Sigma 86XX like the WDTV. If user of these players (using the Sigma 86XX chip) can confirm that they too can play the Full HR videos, then we Sanyo camcorder owners will even have more choices. The earlier WDTV cannot, as noted in my earlier post.
Anyway, here's the list of some of those that can play the Full HR video.

As media players are getting more popular by the day, there are new models coming out by the day as well. So apart from the physical look of the unit, you may decide based on the price and the bells and whistles that come with it. So how do you choose one that is right for you? Well, I think that will be a good topic for my next new Blog!
BTW, I'll be getting one of these Realtek 1073DD media player myself to play my HD2000 videos. Which model will it be? Well, watch for my review soon once it arrives.

i use a wd live and it works fine with my FH1 HR video clips. no problems with playback at all.

ReplyDeletethanks for the feedback. It would mean that the rest of the world has caught up with the Sanyo HD2000 and the 60p videos can be played on all the newer media players.
This is completely off topic, but have you done any tests or anything with Lens Adapters or Shotgun mics?
ReplyDeleteHi Nathan, I have not tested any accessories with my HD2000 so I cannot give any comments here. There are some HD2000/FH1 videos shot with added lens in Youtube and Vimeo which you can search to see the results.

I recently found out that there is a Blu-ray player that indeed can play the Sanyo VPC-HD2000 files in their native resolution of up to 1080/60p. It is the LG BD370 that can perform this truly extraordinary task. I left a more detailed comment at the AVS forums. In my humble opinion, the BD370 is the ultimate HD video solution. And it comes at a value price, too.

ReplyDeleteLast week I was in Hong Kong and bought a Techgear Moviebox 902 (HK$980) and a VPC HD2000 (HK$2600).
The Techgear looks exactly like an AC Ryan, and uses a Realtek 1283 chipset (it also has a bit torrent client, analog input record and space for a DVT HD tuner).
The Techgear plays all of the Sanyo's mp4 files well on my Sony 1080p tv (kdl-40W5500), however, after looking carefully at 1080p60 footage I noticed it was was not super smooth and looked more like 1080p30. For comparison I connected the HD2000's HDMI output directly to the tv and it played much better (extremely smooth on fast panning shots) and was definitely 1080p60. So after much tinkering and testing on my brother's Samsung HD tv (and reading the source from SD card, USB and internal HDD), I'm pretty sure that the Realtek 1283 can NOT play 1080p60 files in h264.AVC MP4 format from the Xacti. However it does the Xacti 1080i60 format very smoothly and this looks the best with regards to fast motion (better than 1080p30 and 1080p60).
Do you know of another 1080p60 file format/codec I can transcode into to play off the Techgear? or do you know of a way to change 1080p60 files into 1080i60?
